I've always known about Narnia. Who hasn't, after all? But I've never read this series, and I only know loose details about it. And with how beloved it is, I made a promise to myself to read it in the ripe year of 2026, especially with my children fastly approaching the age to read this kinda stuff.
Even with those expectations, though, this exceeded what I anticipated it to be. The imagery is vivid, the characters real, the themes are clearly Christian-derived.
Digory and Polly are written well as children, and I was engaged throughout the entirety of this short book. I will definitely be reading this to my children as they get older, and I will absolutely read the rest of this series this year. No more putting it off.
If you're older? Perfect palate cleanse. Still recommend it.
